Hillstone Weddings
Hillstone Golf Club in St Lucia stand on the foundations of a very old house called Hillstone. The story of this house begins in the 1850’s with the enterprising Englishman William Dart.
William Dart was a wheelwright and coachbuilder in his 20’s who decided to immigrate to Australia and build a new life. Within a couple years of arriving in Brisbane, he was a grower of cotton and bananas with his family on the banks of the Brisbane Rivers.
Later, in the 1880s, William had established himself in Australia and decided to built a grand house for his wife and children. This house he later named ‘Hillstone’. His family lived in this house for over 40 years, until it later became the first clubhouse for the Indooroopilly Golf Club.
The original clubhouse has become heritage listed as well as Hillstone’s Mango Tree, which is a centrepiece and focal point of all those in attendance at a Hillstone event.
